In 2006 I wanted ad-free fansite hosting so I started Fan St. I’m still hosting some of the same customers who joined me back then.
As a fansite owner myself for over 15 years I know what a big difference good fansite hosting makes. I’ll be your contact if you need support and there’s a proper technical team who help me if things get tricky. You will always own your content and your domains, and I will never block your access to your site.
So if you’re looking for a fansite host you can trust, I hope you’ll find a home here with us. Here’s to the next 10 years of Fan St!

So what are you waiting for?

Can I pay by PayPal?

You can but if you can use the normal method it really helps me out. I get that some people prefer PayPal though so you can pay with PayPal in pounds (GBP) at the normal prices or you can see if the US Dollar or Euro prices are better for you.

How can you be so cheap?

When you buy from a big name company, you’re not just paying for your hosting, you’re also paying for the number of staff they employ, their office space, their marketing and all of that other stuff. Fan St. isn’t a big business trying to make loads of profit; it’s just me. I work from home and my marketing is by word of mouth. I can’t offer 24/7 support, but anything that’s a major server issue gets picked up by the monitoring software and there’s a technical support team fixing it often before anyone has even noticed.

I have X number of sites, do I need to buy the City plan more than once?

No, the City plan is just one price to host as many sites as you like. You tell me the domain names, I set them up. You still pay the same amount no matter how bad your fansite addiction is.

Do you do transfers?

Transfers cost £7 per site. But if you’re just worried about setting up the databases, I recommend getting the files moved over yourself. I can help get WordPress and Coppermine working as part of the normal support I offer at no extra charge.

Do you host collectives or other types of site?

Yes! We’ve got collectives, personal blogs, and company websites on our servers.

Why do I need my own domain name?

Fan St. doesn’t sell domains because I don’t believe in having your hosting and your domain name with the same company. Also unlike for hosting, big name companies actually offer domains cheaper than we can, so it benefits you to buy elsewhere. I get my domains from Namecheap because they offer cheap domain names with free whoisguard so you can keep your details private (this is an affiliate link which means we get a bit of money from the sale at no extra cost to you).

What does ‘Unlimited’ actually mean?

You’ll have all the space you need to store your files, and you’ll never have to worry about traffic limits but we do ask you to comply with our terms and conditions about acceptable use.

Do you host WordPress video archives?

Yes. You can host video as long as it is for display on your website (so you’re not just using it as file hosting) and inline with the rest of our acceptable use rules. Video can be quite demanding though so super busy sites (over 1000 sessions/day) might find themselves using too much of the server resources.
